Title: Is CBD legal in Australia? – What you need to know
Body: Australia is generally classified as a very friendly country. Even with their many laws and restrictions, it’s semi-safe to say Australia is also a country that’s very advantageous about cannabis. So if you’re planning on traveling to Australia, or even live there and still have questions about the current laws and regulations on CBD and cannabis, we at Exclusive Hemp have put together this article in hopes of answering a few of them for you. So for starters…
Is CBD legal in Australia?
Despite the fact that the Australian Federal Government decriminalized the use of medicinal Cannabis in 2016, CBD is still highly regulated. Yes, you can legally buy and use CBD in Australia. But according to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), it’s only legal if the content of other cannabinoids (including THC) does not exceed 0.2%. This is because CBD is still regulated as a controlled substance under poison and drug laws.
Can I travel with CBD products into Australia?
Even though it’s strictly regulated, yes, you’re technically allowed to travel with CBD to Australia. If you’re coming from overseas, and are on a travel visa, you’re allowed to bring a three month supply of CBD. This is because you’ll be under the protection of the Traveller’s Exemption Law (you can read more about that here: https://www.tga.gov.au/entering-australia). It’s still recommended to bring a proof of prescription, or doctors note with you.
If you’re traveling domestically, you’re required to have proof of prescription, and some form of identification to prove that the CBD you’re in possession of is for you. If you plan on staying longer than three months in Australia, then you can visit a doctor to obtain a prescription for CBD.
Is it legal to buy CBD online in Australia?
Since CBD without a prescription is illegal in Australia, it’s not advisable to buy CBD online (unless you already have a prescription for it) from somewhere abroad. It is, however, possible to do with a mail forwarding service. A mail forwarding service may cost more, but might be required to help get the CBD you want to your home. BUT there is a catch…there is no guarantee that product won’t be seized at customs, and if it is, you could get into some trouble. Make sure it’s the legal dosage amount before purchasing.
Can I use CBD products in Australia without a prescription?
No, you cannot. Since CBD is a controlled substance in Australia, in order to use it, you’ll need a prescription from a doctor.
